Mashujaa Day is a time to reflect on courage, sacrifice and the people who make a difference in the lives of others. On 20 October 2026, Write Life Kenya joined Lespwar Trust for a Funday at Kamiti Youth Corrective Training Center.
The event brought together approximately 160 participants, including 118 juvenile boys, alongside representatives from other organisations. It was a day filled with sports, creativity and interaction. Activities included football, volleyball, sack races, blind races and art through colouring. Beyond the fun, the day provided an opportunity for the boys to participate, connect, and enjoy a different kind of experience.
Write Life Kenya was represented by Maryfridah Kiaira and David Mwenda. As part of its contribution, Write Life Kenya supported the event with maize flour, SOAR Mental Health Workbooks for Men, and reading materials, including the books Time for Goliath to Die, Triumph of Faith, and The Crooked Crown.
At Write Life Kenya, we believe that mental health advocacy extends beyond conversations about mental illness. It includes creating safe opportunities for connection, encouraging self-expression, promoting positive engagement, and reminding people that their well-being matters. We appreciate Lespwar Trust for organising the event and creating an opportunity for collaboration.
Championing mental health for all requires collective effort. You do not have to be a mental health professional or an organisation to make a difference. You can contribute through your time, resources, skills, partnerships or financial support.
